Because it has very recognizable features, like a Turkey tail,it also alled “Turkey Tail Mushroom”. It may be the only forest fungus named after a bird that is named for a local feature rather than the whole. It grows wild on the stumps, branches of various broadleaf trees. It is found in forests all over the world. It can be harvested all year round, removed impurities, and dried.
